Jesse W

Hey! My name is Jesse Watson. I am a Software Developer and a Systems Technician at a private school in Australia. I like to make things with code and share what I build with the world on X, BlueSky and other platforms.

ABOUT ME

Who am I?

I work at Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School, a private school in Australia, as a Systems Technician. My time is split between developing and helping staff and students ensure their tech runs well. Projects I've worked on here involve IoT, AI (Lindisfarne AI), backend systems and other cool stuff.

I also work on my own projects. I love NextJS and Swift. I've built a bunch of silly little web apps (including this website) with NextJS, and I've built a Mac app called Caffeinate Pro with Swift. I've also built systems with Node-RED and Python, and I have a small server running at home that controlls some of my smarthome devices as well as hosts a couple web apps and a Minecraft server.

I'm always working on something interesting and will post about it here or on the socials. Follow me with the social links above and I'll keep you posted.

P.S. ...I've got another iOS app in the works for my fellow car lovers who track their vehicle's economy and services.

More about how I got here...

What Does the Future Hold? (Sometime in the Future)

I am not yet sure exactly what I want for my future. The broadness of my current role is great and I'm always learning. However, there will be a time in the future where I move on. This could involve a job as a developer at a company, starting my own business or creating my own app. Who knows!

Becoming an IT Systems Technician (May, 2023)

I ended up missing the deadline to enrol in another course, so I continued to build my own stuff (I was working at good ol' McDonald's at the time). After a couple months I got a job offer at Lindisfarne, a private school in my area, which is where I am now. We have been awarded the school with the best use of technology in Australia and continue to improve on this.

Uni Break / Discontinued Degree (November, 2022)

Towards the end of the first year, RMIT announced that they were restructuring the IT degrees and the one I was completing could not be transfered and would be discontinued. I used this break time to work on my programming skills and looked at ways to get into the industry without a degree.

University - Bachelor of Information Technology (March, 2022)

It was time to move on from the trade, tiling was not my passion. I decided to start a Bachelor of Information Technology online at RMIT. The first couple subjects gave me a passion for technology and programming; from there my love for the industry was sparked.

School to a Trade (December, 2020)

I wasn't a fan of school; I always had other side projects that I spent more time on. So, I finished up after getting my Grade 10 certificate and started a tiling apprenticeship.
